As for nightlife, it's very close and the two are very comparable. Id give the slight to Seattle but it's close.

Pictures are my own. Most recent visit to San Diego. Ignore the one picture that came out sideways, I don't know why City-Data does that when you upload pictures but nothing can be done (since its formatted on my file appropriately).

La Jolla, San Diego:

Again, pictures are my own. I also saw Seattle on that exact same trip as San Diego. Sorry if any upload sideways, I don't know how to make it stop doing that since its upright on my actual hard drive.

Both San Diego and Seattle are two of my favorite cities in the entire Western Hemisphere. If I wasn't living in Miami, I would be living in either San Diego or Seattle (or New York, Denver, Tucson, Honolulu) if I could help it. Words alone do not describe how beautiful, safe, prosperous, safe, diverse, fun, active, safe both San Diego and Seattle are. Did I mention they feel incredibly safe for such big cities?!

They do both feel safe, but I would say San Diego feels safer. And the crime stats for San Diego are safer too.

This is true. Both cities feel very safe, but you're right San Diego more so. I didn't see a single cop the days I stayed in San Diego, not a single one from what I can recall. Didn't see anything shady occur there either, but can say the same of Seattle.

More of my pictures from my most recent visit to Seattle with friends:

I think both are my favorite west coast cities, both are very livable. I'd take San Diego because the weather is better, and I find the general populous a little more friendly. This is close though.
