The problem is that too many *enjoy* living in their own "cultural silo" (or cultural "ghetto").
Groups can be "ethnocentric" which is fine, but some of this "identity" crap is unnecessary and undesirable....
Who the hell wants to live around other people who are incapable and unwilling to negotiate with and around other people? Blacks seeking out blacks...whites seeking out whites...Hispanics seeking out Spanish-speaking cultures.
It appears to me that many blacks are doing nothing else but "self-segregation"...ditto Hispanics. Subculturalism at its best.
A city's desirability is not determined whether it has, or doesn't have a "black radio station", or a "good Mexican restaurant".
What American wants to live in a sea of "sub-culturalism" ? I don't. I prefer a bit of acculturalization and assimilation with my "variety".

Can I assume you are a member of the majority group?
I'm all for a homogenous culture, too, as long as it includes all cutures. Subcultures are all minorities have when they're ignored by the mainstream.

When is the last time you've immersed yourself in a community in which you weren't the majority?

Whom's culture should be assimilated? Everyone could make a case as to why it should be their culture that is the only one.
Here's a better path: Everyone gets to choose how the live based on what they like. This is one of things that makes America a great country to live in.
