Lmao. Well then, would that be Los Angeles? Denver? Haha I feel a thread coming on...which U.S. city has the most gyms per capita? Hell, we've exhausted everything else!
Palo Alto is probably one of 5 most powerful suburbs in the nation, as far as business Id rank it first in the nation, as far as finance, Id rank it first, as far as institutions, Stanford and it's medical and research centers put Palo Alto in the top 3, etc.
Palo Alto is one of the few suburbs to appear in global rankings.
I think Palo Alto would have strong competition from Stamford, CT. Those two are probably the most notable suburbs in the country. Economically, Stamford is more of a powerhouse than all but a few major metros. In terms of total GDP, it's got hyper-inflated per capita numbers like PA/Bay Area, and while its population is small and thus its total GDP is less than say a Phoenix or even a mid-size metro of 2-3 million, it's probably up there in importance for the world of finance with the likes of Boston, Chicago, and SF, and is home to many corporate or American HQs to many companies. Lots of very important people live in the area, and it's well connected to Manhattan via PT.
I guess some might argue Stamford is a "city", not a suburb. Hmmm...well, I consider it a "suburb". Lots of the younger workers commute in from the city and the older guys/managers/executives enjoy their family-sized estates/executive housing and CT tax benefits. That's basically how a suburb works! That's how Palo Alto and the rest of the Peninsula work, too.
They probably aren't at the top of the heap but Miami's suburbs in collection dwarf the city proper in MiamiDade County by more than 5:1. Taking into account the entire MSA, that ratio is more like 13:1.

This is very true. Hialeah alone has nearly 55% of Miami's city proper population. Add in the rest of just Miami-Dade County, not even including Broward and West Palm Beach, and Miami city proper is only around 17% of Miami-Dade's population. "Miami" is very decentralized across many suburbs and independent cities, not just in population, but in wealth as well (hello, Miami Beach).
