Which state is tax friendlier to retirees? Are the two states similar re: politics? Both states are low-cost of living areas, but aside from that, I don't know the differences much.
I'd be looking in eastern OK or NW Arkansas (not far apart in miles.) Thanks.

It depends on which form of taxes is more important to you. These links provide a nice overview that might be helpful.
Both great areas; can't go wrong either way. Both are very scenically beautiful with a pretty good COL.
As an Okie, I'm partial to Eastern Oklahoma. That way I get to reside in Oklahoma and eat some of the best BBQ around and then drive across the stateline to Springdale if I get a hankering to eat the best chicken (other than mama's) on planet earth at the A&Q Chicken House.
Oh, and especially don't forget about the great (and very underrated) lakes in those areas.
