Hey guys. I thought this would be an interesting discussion. Atlantic vs Pacific? Old money vs new money?

Which city do YOU think is better? This is just a general discussion, no specific reason.

Newport, RI

Newport Beach, CA

Totally, completely different. Not really a comparison.

NB is a dense suburb centered around SoCal beach life. Newport is a small city centered around boating, history and tourism.

Too bad Newport is not the major city and state capital. Providence is too close to Massachusetts with its sprawl spilling over the state line. It seems more of a suburb of Boston. Newport is definitely more beautiful than Providence.

Newport Beach is much better though because of it's proximity to L.A. and the amenities the big city (outside of New York) offers. SoCal beaches are definitely the most scenic in the United States. Still can't beat the Pacific and the cool beach weather.

both are very different ..both are great places, but my vote is for Newport RI ... love the rocky coast and sandy beaches .. and the water gets into the 70s

Newport was once the capital on a rotating basis. In 1776, Rhode Island embarked on a lively experiment, rotating its capital between five counties: Providence, Newport, East Greenwich, South Kingstown and Bristol.

Around 1853 the state legislature stopped meeting in the Kent, Washington and Bristol counties and alternated between Providence and Newport. Providence grew and Newport declined, and in 1900 the government finally settled for Providence.

I like Newport Beach, if you could get rid of the people that live there.

I'd live in Newport but Newport Beach is way more fun.
