The water is pretty much always murky in Galveston. The beaches there suck. That said, I like Galveston pretty well for the food and the cultural events that go on there.

In the end, it doesn't matter, as per aforementioned reasons. After all, 5-5.5hrs is the drive time from LA to any other large metro not named San Diego. The distance from Miami to the next largest metros (Tampa, Orlando), is around 4.5 hrs. But, Miami and Los Angeles don't lose sleep over such isolation they have. Neither do places like Denver or New Orleans.
Why doesn't it matter? I'm not sure I'm following.
Waiting for the answer myself. The post is a non sequitur.
Cool, I read the preceding posts thinking I was missing something.
There are only a few drawbacks to being in close proximity to a lot of good things (that I can think of). Increased traffic, although in our case, the Amtrak NEC and other PT-type options make that less of an issue. And then there are all the nuclear power plants, potentially leading to a NEC doomsday. But that's not much of a likelihood. Can't think of any others.

Yea, and all four are right in South Jersey. I can literally see Hope Creek right from my office window There's a very, very small chance of anything going wrong, but in this day and age of terrorism, a small group of crazies is all it takes...
