I give a slight edge to Oregon! The coast is much better, and it has a slight bit more variety!!!!!

I agree with the coast but that is mostly because the weather gets lot better on the southern Oregon coast than any of the Washington Coast. I dont agree on Variation though. Washington has larger mountains, desert, just as many canyons, river gorges, etc. The Olympic National Rain forest I think puts Washington over the edge. One of the most unique places in the lower 48.

No way does Oregon have more variety than Washington. Washington has everything from rainforest to high desert. It has a broader variety of mountains and terrain. Not to mention, the scenery and landscape is more dramatic in Washington than Oregon. However, there's no doubt the Oregon Coast is significantly nicer than Washington's coast. I'd still give the overall edge to Washington, though.

I could see why some would prefer the Oregon Coast with nice little towns and the scenic drive down 101, it's a bit more accessable and better developed. But Washington coast also has Olympic National Park and the San Juan Islands, and countless little harbors and inland bodies of water. The ferry rides in the sound with the mountains shaded purple at sunset is an experience you don't get on the Oregon coast. Overall I prefer the WA coast.

How is the OR coast nicer than the WA one? I thought they would be very similar, I guess not.

The Washington coast isn't as hilly, the coast mountains aren't against the sea. You can see the difference in a topo map

Both are really beautiful states, but I give the edge to Oregon because of the diversity of coast which I believe is the most beautiful coast line in America, Hells Canyon, and the Painted Hills. It is a tough decision because Olympic National Park and North Cascades National Park are incredibly beautiful, and the Cascades of Washington are the best mountains in the contiguous 48. Only the San Juan Mountains and Sangres come close.

I think Washington has a slight edge. I think national parks like Olympic and Mt. Rainier are more superlative and exceptional than Oregons' equivalent. Also, Washingtons rainshadow country has civilization (towns and farms), as opposed to Oregons outback which is some of the most empty and foreboding landscape anywhere in the lower 48.

Oregon definitely has the edge on rain-fed farm country. greater Seattle metro I think being bigger fills up the narrow corridor between Olympic peninsula and the cascades with more development. Oregons Willamette Valley looks a little more Idyllic like New England or Wisconsins farms.

I think overall WA has the edge as far as city (Seattle over Portland) and wilderness (again, National Parks), whereas Oregon has the edge on populated rural landscape.

So, it would be plausible to say that Oregon has a prettier coastline but Washington has a more impressive mountain scenery?
