I know these 2 are completely different. But which one is better for:

Cost of living?
Safe neighborhood?
Affordable housing?
Job opportunities (medical field)?
Diversity/ culture?

People on this site don't like Phoenix, generally.

Cost of living: cost calculators say 47k in Phoenix is 50k in Atlanta, so Phoenix wins there.

Safe neighborhood: I'd guess it is similar, but when I think of Atlanta I would imagine more inner city crime and Phoenix with Cartel and drug crime.

Housing: the calculator I use says Phoenix housing is 3% cheaper. You can buy nice places cheap in the suburbs in both locations.

Job opportunities: both are growing, Phoenix has a lot of hospitals that are super busy November-May, but then slow down when the old people go north.

Diversity: Atlanta probably wins. Phoenix is mostly white(Hispanic and Non-Hispanic).

Culture: up to the person, I like Phoenix's more. Laid back, wearing shorts all the time, warm evenings on restaurant patios. Hiking, and day trips.

It will be losing shortly. Atlanta is a C-D favorite.

Cost of living?- Both cities are pretty cheap, you can get a nice house in the Phoenix area without having to pay much money. As someone said they are pretty much even.
Safe neighborhood?- Phoenix by far
Affordable housing?- Even
Job opportunities (medical field)?- For medical field Phoenix has a lot of job opportunities, can't speak for ATL.
Diversity/ culture?- Phoenix (46%non hispanic white, 40% Hispanic, 6.5%black, 3%asian) Atlanta (51% black, 38% white, 5%hispanic, 3.7% asian) both are equally diverse.

It all comes down to what your preference is, I think you're going to have to be more specific on what you are searching for. Do you like humidity or dry heat, do you like the culture of the west or south, do you like palm trees or dog woods/southern pines, ect.

Atlanta is not a favorite. It's liked more than Phoenix, but it's no Seattle/Minneapolis/Boston.

You're right, as a whole it is not really that loved on here BUT I feel like it has regional boosters that always back it up, a ton of people from the south eastern section of the USA boost Atlanta. Phoenix(and western cities in general) are on their own in that regard seeing as western cities are not as regional/don't have people that feel the need to vote or argue for a city just because it is close by.
