New York is interesting, and huge. So much going for it. But its look to me is gritty and its buildings are not attractive for the most part. Chicago is cleaner, newer, more beautiful and embraces its setting better. COL is one thing, but the look and feel is another.
In rankings worldwide, NYC is always up at the top with London. Chicago down a few pegs at around 8. Careers are comparable; my office in NYC is just a transfer request away. I think I will stick with Chicago.
NYC is one of the greatest cities in the world, if not the greatest
NYC and Chicago aren’t peer cities everyone knows that, we don’t need to belabor that. But I thought this thread was about which city you personally prefer and which you may prefer to visit. So if that’s the case right now I would prefer Asheville NC to either.
Great curve ball thrown in the NYC beats everything..... as usual post

Why NYC is generally excluded .....and think you are saying this topic/thread has had its run and others.....
New York I suppose if I had to choose. Beyond the tangible benefits today, there is an expectation that NYC would continue to find ways to reinvent itself over the next 40 years or so. I don’t have the same confidence in Chicago.
NYC and it’s not close. This isn’t to diss on Chicago at all, but it’s just on a different level and besides the size difference, large portions of Chicago are pretty messed up where there aren’t many areas of NYC that are really unlivable due to crime and other issues in the same way there are parts of Chicago like that.
The only thing that Chicago might have a leg up on is how the city is integrated with its waterfront and the loop to the river.
