Hello, we are an expanded family planning on relocation later this year. Three of us work in Health Care , so availability of jobs is primary (Respiratory Therapy, especially ). Top consideration's include traffic congestion, and availability of public transportation. Culture equally important, especially live music venues, walking paths, museums, fun downtown areas, 55+ housing, availability of affordable new home construction, and of course weather. We have mixed ages, but in general, the above are priorities. Thank you very much for any advice.

Arizona gets old before you're done driving through it.

The twin (San Francisco) peaks in Flagstaff are awesome.

You can even see them from I-15 coming down through Utah.

i was on the south rim of the Canyon a few weeks ago.

It was nice. Stayed for all of 45 minutes.

Phoenix is an absolute sh_thole.

Sad, cuz it was nice 30 years on the drives out to UCSD.

now, it's gas up and gtfo as fast as you can.

Tucson. don't even get me started on that dustbowl.

Eugene strikes me as being very desirable in terms of what you are looking for, but I don't know what the healthcare market is like there. If already looking that way, you may also want to consider Tacoma and Olympia, which are close to, but outside of Seattle. I would consider those midsize cities. Phoenix and Portland aren't massive, but I would assume they get their fair share of congestion/traffic.

Oregon and Arizona are two of my favorite states in the Nation. I can try and give you my opinion on Arizona(phoenix) and how it will fit for you. Phoenix is a very fun city if you like the outdoors, sunshine, and big ol' pools. The live music scene is good but not great, areas where you will find live music will be in Phoenix city proper, especially in downtown and midtown. There are walkable sections of Phoenix, but they are very limited. The walkable sections will be downtown, midtown, downtown Scottsdale, and downtown Tempe. Phoenix is sort of like LA in this regard(the walkable parts of the metro are not concentrated, but rather spread out in chunks). In terms of fun downtowns, Downtown Phoenix has made great strides and it is slowly becoming on of the new "hip" places to be in the metro, but downtown Scottsdale and downtown Tempe are still the most "un" downtowns in the valley seeing as they have a multitude of bars, restaurants, art galleries, ect. The public transportation in Phoenix is pretty bad to be honest. Although the busses are clean, and the metro is good if you are commuting between downtown/midtown phoenix and Tempe.....but that's about it. In terms of traffic, people from Phoenix complain about the traffic although I think it's a joke compared to other metro areas...I would assume that the traffic in Phoenix is way worse than Portland though. Obviously Phoenix is not the only city in Arizona, Flagstaff and even Prescott seem like they could fit your criteria, I won't comment on the subject matter though seeing as I don't know much about those two cities. The only thing that I can say is that both Prescott and Flagg. are much greener, colder, and get more snow/rain than Phoenix.

Oh great. Another review by a "drive-by" resident.

Don't think Austin fits. Traffic is highly congested, public transportation is poor, affordable housing is scarce.

AND the medical job market is small compared to other Texas cities. Look at San Antonio, Houston (one of the biggest medical centers in the world) and DFW.
