Detroit is going through major gentrification, right now it's centered downtown, but I'm soon it will soon move into traditionally residential areas.

This appears to be four examples of different archtypes of hipsterism.

Detroit and Oakland probably have the most potential at this point. Austin is more faux hipster at this point. A place that popular couldn't possibly be considered a great place for truly authentic hipsters, especially Downtown Austin. There's nothing really "weird" about it anymore. Many people move there because it's trendy and they hear it's "cool." Yuccie is a great term to describe much of Austin, as well as Dallas. It's basically a hipster/yuppie hybrid.

To be fair, there are still neighborhoods in Austin that would be better for the authentic hipster type. East of I-35 would be one, but definitely not Downtown.

I'm all for Detroit going hipster. If enough cities go hipster, I may be able to afford to go back to Portland.

Downtown Detroit is only being reentered because you can get 20 story buildings for free.
I've never been to Oakland. Do they get cred because SF is so expensive?
Austin isn't much for hipsters - there are too many people employed by someone other than their dad's trust fund.
Portland will forever be the self-wanking capital of the country. Amazing how 600,000 baristas and pottery sculpturists can single-handedly create a tourism-industry based upon green hair.

I live in Detroit, and unfortunately, it can't compete with the other 3. We still have a long way to go. Greater downtown is trending way up though.
