To flesh things out I'm a 32 yo single black male. Currently in San Antonio work in technology. Moved to SA a few years ago from Atlanta and have lived on the east coast much of my life. I work remote and I earn a six figure salary annually so cost, within reason, is not too heavy of a concern but I think I want to keep enough money to save things and eventually own property there.
I'm physically active, like to cook, like to hike, etc. Love a city with a good food scene also and of course being single I want to be somewhere with singles similar to my lifestyle. Given these two cities are largely white interracial dating is always an option.
I have plenty of pros and cons fleshed out about Austin, but I need more help with Denver. I've been to Denver enough but I don't have enough knowledge as to what the job market is like, culture, to some degree weather, acceptance of newcomers, etc.
This is what I fleshed out based on my experience of Austin. Note I've never lived there just lived 5 years in San Antonio:
+Definitely a "young" city where people are coming from all over the country, especially California, to make it their home
+Thriving music scene
+Active nightlife
+Great career opportunities if you work in technology. Dell HQ here. Facebook, Google, IBM offices here and plenty of startups.
+Very active and health conscious people despite being in Texas "one of the fattest states"
+No state income tax in Texas which will offer you overall a low cost of living.
-Overpopulation of the infrastructure which is causing a number of problems
-Increased traffic
-Housing is getting more expensive
-Traffic is getting progressively worse
-Hot summers. Lack of seasons.
-Lacks diversity.
See the response I just posted to Californiaescape here.
To add to what I told her, Denver's not very diverse either. Denver proper's biggest minority group are Hispanic ~30%, and the black population is roughly 10%. Aurora is the most diverse suburb 61% white, 16% black.
Denver's gonna be more expensive than San Antonio by a fair amount as well.
