Considering basic factors, like affordability, traffic, etc, as well as political progressiveness and especially working in the film/entertainment industry, which one might be the better city?
Atlanta takes this one pretty easily, but ask the average young person which is the better city and the discussion changes.
Does anyone care to weigh in on the political progressiveness factor? Austin seems like it might be. Is Atlanta safe for the lgbtq community?
Atlanta has a *HUGE* LGBT community ... and has had for decades. As far back as the 1950s, Atlanta was the city were lesbians and gays from across the Southeast moved to escape discrimination and fear in smaller cities, towns and rural areas.
ALSO: Austin is the capital of Texas, one of the most conservative and REDDEST of all the states. Atlanta is capital of Georgia, which has recently come into play in the 2016 Presidential Election and stands a chance of going blue on Nov. 8.

But it's well-known that Austin (as well as Houston and Dallas) is a pretty stark oasis of blue in Texas. The same trends that are slowly turning Georgia purple are also at work in Texas.
You're quite right, I don't. That's kind of why I'm asking! Thanks for the feedback!
Atlanta is a Hip Hop mecca now a days but a lot of hip hop artist from other cities frequently bash it for being too gay. There are even a couple of almost openly gay rap stars from the city. Decatur Ga directly East of the city has one the very highest percentage of lesbians among it's population of any city in America. The annual gay pride events in Atlanta are huge attracting 100s of thousands and lots of celebrity entertainers. Many of the neighborhoods in Atlanta have a noticeably large gay presence. A lot of Black women in Atlanta frequently complain that it's hard to find an available Black man because so many of the Black men are gay. Those lady prostitutes you see walking around Midtown late at night, those aren't women. (Is it still like that?)
Just a few facts that might shed some light for you.
You're quite the ambassador for the Lone Star State, aren't you?
