I find these two cities similar in that they both have growing educated populations. They're both yuppified and liberal.Another thing that both cities have in common is that they are stuck in regions that are strickingly different from them.

Minneapolis and St Paul proper are not particularly yuppified, they just don't have ghettos. Both are largely blue collar and lower middle class (even the hipsters). There are some yuppies in Minneapolis but nothing like Manhattan, the north side of Chicago or San Francisco.

LOL!! Austin's skyline over Minneapolis? Someone is still upset about the lopsided Minneapolis skyline vs. Denver skyline pole. So you honestly think Austin's skyline wins out in density, height, size and overall appeal? Either you are trolling or you have never been to either city.
Do you mean Austin/Minneapolis are nothing like Texas/Minnesota, or that Texas is nothing like the upper Midwest?
If you mean the former, I think this disparity is more applicable to Austin/Texas than Minneapolis/Minnesota.
Probably meaning that Minneapolis and Austin are both very liberal bastions in comparatively conservative states. Although Texas as is whole is far more conservative than Minnesota, Michele Bachmann represents the northern suburbs whereas Keith Ellison represent North Minneapolis. That's about as politically disparate as you can get.
