But seriously, who made you the official U.S. expert on this to speak so authoritatively? It's one thing to be confident in your assessment and defend it reasonably and convincingly, but it's an ENTIRELY different thing to proclaim that the only definition of the region that counts is your own. That's a level of arrogance I've not seen on this forum.

Mutiny,

It's not my definition. It's the definition of the southeast/The American South/The Deep South.

You need to understand this.

If we are going to talk about "the" definition, I think that government's definition is the one that matters and here's what the Census website has to say about it.
https://www.census.gov/econ/census/h...divisions.html

South Region
South Atlantic Division: Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia
East South Central Division: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee
West South Central Division: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas

All the cities listed by the OP are in a state that is officially listed as being in the South Region. All of the wikipedia stuff may be culturally accepted norms but they are not official designations.

And you have yet to point me to an official source on this.

You need to get over yourself; you're not an authority on anything.

You realize that wikipedia is a volunteer-edited encyclopedia, right? There's really nothing official about it. Lots of wiki pages are woefully out of date and others have questionable content that, when caught, is flagged.

Missouri is west southern, a touch deep, Maryland is east-northern south (but not deep). Pennsylvania is mild deep northern south deep mid-atlantic while NY is deep northern south northern mid-atlantic east coast north-east.

You should post this as a warning somewhere. This is cutting edge insight.

Regional designations are subjective, and move over time. The idea that they're "official" seems common in CD discussions but it's largely fantasy.

Obviously the Census Dept., historians, botanists, economists, and others each have their definitions, which are useful for their analyses. But culture, plant/animal species, and regional economies don't suddenly change at state lines. When there is a dividing line, it's often a very fuzzy line.

Also laughing at that comment about wikipedia being the arbiter of these things.
