Atlanta.

It's almost laughable that folks say that D.C. rivals Atlanta in this regard. Atlanta's social, film, music, political, business, and educational climate is second to none.

And please miss me with the "D.C. Blacks are wealthier and more educated" argument. Even if that is true, it still hasn't stopped Atlanta's rein as the Black Mecca of America.

Heck, even Atlanta's religious scene is more well known than D.C. Name one prominent black pastor in D.C. ... ok.

Can;t go wrong with either but the ATL is generally accepted as the number one Black city in a way that DC is not...I can see how Black folks from an area other than DC would be extremely impressed by Atlanta

As someone who currently lives in the D.C. Area and lived in Atlanta, I have to give this to Atlanta, because it is a lot more well-rounded city than D.C. for black life. More black people in a variety of industries and backgrounds who are successful. People won't look down on you for not having a college degree or having a certain GS-level the way they do in DC.

And yes, blacks in DC are more affluent and educated in general, BUT Atlanta is no slouch in that department either. The lower cost of living and warmer weather and it's popularity in the media have definitely given the city an edge since the 1970s, though the true momentum for Atlanta didn't really happen until the 1990s. D.C. was seen as a beacon for black opportunity for many years, but ATL certainly caught up and surpassed it in many ways.
