Every city doesn't have to be everything to everybody. Each city is going to have its own identity and strengths. Not having something that another city has does not make a place inferior or bad. Of course, most cities want more quills in their quivers and building upon ones resume is what cities often do as they grow.
Yes. Austin may be great to some, and not great to otehrs. Why it's getting compared to South Beach and Atlanta, I don't get.
Austin is a liberal place that you can get away and do some pretty unique things, lots of fun festivals, etc. It's unique.
I'm not looking for drugs. Are you? Is doing drugs in the open liberal and your idea of a good time? Nobody is going to Austin for the lounge scene. I don't consider that a strength for a city btw.
mods, this guy is bordering on the personal attacks. I didn't reference any of the above cities when talking about Austin. Your jealousy of Austin knows no bounds.
You pretty much implied that there was no where else in Texas or the South to party and have a good time in, even without necessarily naming them. That Austin was an isolated bubble of fun.
Nothing personal btw -- Just dispelling the typical "Austin is the ONLY liberal city in Texas" or "Austin is the ONLY city in the South to party in."

Again, that's not unique at all. It's not like we're talking about Vegas. Yes, Austin has some unique major festivals (e.g. ACL and SXSW) but that doesn't mean Atlanta or Miami lack their own festivals or events or even a sizeable liberal population in their cities.
Austin? Unique? How? NOLA is unique. There's absolutely nothing unique about Austin. It's always being compared to Denver and Portland which doesn't make it unique.

I didn't reference either of those cities, now I did say the south, but I should've said west of New Orleans to Phoenix. But Atlanta to me, while fun, is just a really big city. I'm almost positive Atlanta, like Houston or Dallas have a lot to do.
But Austin is smaller. It's understated. I think it's still small enough for a relaxing weekend getaway. It's not building a giant park because it can say "our park is larger than Central Park." It has a natural spring fed pool, right in the heart of the city. It has numerous water falls that are fifteen minutes from downtown. While it's demographics are changing, it's citizens are generally anti-finance, for better or worse. The fact that people continue to flock there, against its citizens wishes is not its fault.
Unlike Houston or Dallas, Austin residents don't really care to get bigger. Its end goal isn't to "surpass Chicago by 2030."
your hate for Austin, and your obsession with me, is unhealthy and tiresome. I get that you hate Austin and the attention it gets. I get that you are upset that Austin seems to get more attention than Dallas. But, in this forum, Austin is pretty hated. Isn't that enough for you?

Honestly, it seems you have way more hatred for Dallas and Houston than he or anyone else for that matter does for Austin. Look at the continuous shots you just took regarding Dallas. Also, Austin may have the largest and most known festival with SXSW and another big one with ACL. But it doesn't have more festivals than Houston (especially) and Dallas. Austin is a city for people that don't really want to be in a "big city". It is not the only liberal place in Texas or the only place you can party.

That's an excellent point, especially about the smaller size and numerous water falls minutes from Downtown. Definitely nice qualities. Those are 2 big reasons why I do visit there occasionally, so I clearly don't hate it at all. If I had to choose another city in Texas to live in, I would choose there. Listening to the hype though is tiresome and I know many local Austinites feel the same way.
And most residents in Dallas want quality parks -- no more fancy bridges or any of that. Population size doesn't matter to me. In fact, I wish our metro wasn't ranked at #4 in population size. We want quality, sustainable growth in our inner city.

Hype from who? If it were up to Austinites, the city would shrink in half.

Newer Austin residents (within last 5 years), first time or occasional visitors, Forbes, this website, and on and on. Longer term residents not as much. It's definitely way more overpraised than hated in general.
