What's the most laid back state in America? By laid back I'm thinking where everyone's not always in a hurry, where life goes by at a slower pace, people take time to enjoy the little moments in life and are friendly and have time to talk to each other in the neighborhood, drive slower etc.

I currently live in West Virginia and consider it a very laid back place. People here never seem to be in a big rush. One downside is that in many rural areas people would drive 10 miles below the speed limit and nobody would honk.....but I prefer the pace here over places like New Jersey.

Louisiana is another place where I've lived where life really seems to move at a slower pace. New Orleans is particularly no-stress for a big city. Hawaii also has a very unique culture that seems to value the simple things in life vs be all about materialism and keeping up with everyone else.

Some people claim California is laid-back, but the only people who say that are transplants from the Northeast.

Hawaii. They're just chilling out in the middle of the Pacific far away from everyone else and everything. Isolated and away from the craziness. Living that Island life....

Kauai

Only place I've been to in Hawaii, but think it pretty well embodies a chill, laid back place as there ever was and is.
