I can't speak for Denver but there are not a whole lot of job opportunities in either of your fields in Portland. I used to work with a temp agency and people with your degrees often wound up with entry level office work if they were lucky, otherwise baristas and waitstaff.
Do your homework regarding what job opportunities you might be able to obtain before moving.
