This would be for 6-8 mos a year living, summer, fall and some of winter. Talking about the northern less populated parts of these states closer to more outdoor scenery. MI would include UP too. Work from home so local jobs not as important. What are your opinions on which has better scenery, nicer towns, nicer people? Which has more affordable housing? Any big differences in weather? Which area would you prefer if it was you?

For cities in Northern MN and Northern WI....how would Duluth compare to Appleton WI? Duluth seems close to nice outdoor beauty, parks, lakes.

I like the UP the best. It's amazing. The scenery and lakes are amazing. The Marquette area is nice, too.

You probably won't get a lot of Wisconsin votes, because there might only be two of us on this forum. BUT, IMO, the UP is too isolated. Marquette gets a whole lot of snow, but it is pretty, with its Lake Superior setting. If you consider Appleton, WI as northern, that's interesting. I would go north of Appleton and Green Bay into Door County...now THAT's hard to beat. I feel Duluth is too far north, and my experience has been, that people aren't that friendly there. I don't want to start something, but I've heard that from numerous people...kind of weird. My recommendation would be Door County.

Pretty parts of the country, but way too cold in the winter. Couldn't select between those three.

Northern MN is very affordable and laid back. I love the older people up here - most of Scandinavian descent. The winter is more exciting than anything imo. My favorite towns in the region range from Thief River Falls, Fertile, F-M, Bagley, Bemidji, Walker, Grand Rapids, Duluth, Grand Marais.

Had an aunt and uncle who lived up in Manistique in the UP. Area was beautiful, but life could be very rough come late fall/early winter.

Interesting Door County is all out on the end of that peninsula, just checked it out on a map, southern parts of Door County not too far from Green Bay.

Appleton and Duluth just came to mind because decent sized cities closest to northern parts.

I have heard good things about Marquette MI, there are even some hills around there for hiking.

Shouldn't be, though. WI is very underrepresented on this forum. Wisconsin has some very cool northern areas...inundated by those from Chicago.
