The total population by CSA/MSA is below along with the total percentage the non-Hispanic white population makes up of the metro area. One thing to bear in mind is that Arabs and Middle Eastern people are considered Non-Hispanic white. That would make NYC, LA, and especially Detroits numbers quite different.

I wish the Arab and the Middle Eastern populations weren't included.
That is an annoyance of mine as well. I wish they were their own category. However, the truth of the matter is the only one that it would significantly impact would be Detroit. Based on the projected Arab population of the Detroit area, it would reduce the non-Hispanic white population to close to 3 million and drop the percentage to close to 55%. Even in LA and NYC it wouldnt impact that much.

Where is Seattle in the total population list?
Also, the percentage one is interesting because it flies against the commonly held perception that Portland and Seattle are the two whitest metro areas in the country - they are both, especially Seattle, significantly lower than a number of other metros (primarily in the Midwest). I think this is probably related to the fact that, in the Seattle CSA at least, a good number of the suburbs/secondary cities have a significantly higher percentage of minorities than the City of Seattle itself. Whereas in the Midwest I would wager that the city itself usually has the highest share of minorities in the metro area (or close to, at least).
Many older Midwestern metros outside Chicago didn't receive the large influx of Hispanics that coastal cities have in the last few decades. Largely due to slower growth economies.

I remember reading something a while back, about how in the next census (2020) , people of Middle Easternern decent will be considered its own "race" called "Mena", stands for Middle East & North Africa.
Also starting in the 2020 Census, Hispanic/Latino will no longer be consided an ethnicity but a race. Which is ignorant becuz Hispanics can be black, white, native american, or mixed. The only good thing about that is, most Hispanics are mixed race and falsely self identify as white on government forms like the census, this will stop that.
Also, the percentage one is interesting because it flies against the commonly held perception that Portland and Seattle are the two whitest metro areas in the country - they are both, especially Seattle, significantly lower than a number of other metros (primarily in the Midwest). It likely comes down to the fact that Seattle and Portland are more likely to have higher percentages of Asians and Hispanics, as well as Native Americans in comparison to those other metros. This is while having more Black people than people may realize. So, all of that likely leads to a lower percentage in this regard than perceived to be.
