I have the opportunity to relocate to any city with a major airport. I was planning on Chicago, but going back and forth now on whether its the right fight. Any thoughts on Chicago vs. Denver vs. Atlanta? I have been to all three and liked what I saw, but trying to narrow down the visits to keep it affordable.

Things that are important to me:

1. Safety
2. Walkability; access to bars, restaurants, fitness classes
3. As a young, single professional, the ability meet other young, single professionals is pretty important (one of the reasons for the move, since I now live in a very suburban area)

Any neighborhood recommendations in your city of choice are welcome.

What is your budget? If you can afford it, there are perfect neighborhoods in Chicago as long as you don't mind cold winters. The scope of the neighborhoods you can explore car-free in Chicago is much greater than Denver or Atlanta. But if your budget is tight you might be limited in terms of how much sqft you can afford in the most vibrant and safest neighborhoods (and everyone's definition of what feels/is "safe" is different- especially if you are used to sterile suburbia.)

If only for safety, Denver is at the top for sure.

Chicago will be the most walkable. The other two aren't even close.

Denver will be the safest.

Atlanta will likely be the most affordable.

Is there a difference in weather that affects flights?

Chicago has the full package of the 3, Denver is more outdoorsy and weed is legal if that’s your thing and Atlanta is the most affordable.

In Downtown Chicago right now. Super vibrant for an American city not named New York. I used to know this but had forgotten about it over the years as I saw more places around the world.

Very impressive. Spectacular city, world class city.

For me, to live would be Denver and/or Chicago. To visit? Straight up Chicago.

I'd go with Chicago. Total package. Denver would be my next choice but in regards to walkability, sheer amount of people to meet, etc there's no contest between these three cities in an actual urban city. Chicago hands down wins for that.

Chicago does not get a ton of snow days in terms of airport delays. The bad weather is more that it is cold, which is less of an issue for an airport. Honestly, summer storms are probably as likely to lead to a flight delay as winter snow. But the times it snows there will be cancellations.

Any of these three cities is perfectly capable of giving you a good experience. IMO you can't go wrong with any of them.
