This includes downtown and surrounding neighborhoods

Walkabillity, Transit, Bikablity as well as proximity to everything you would need to live eg pharmacy, barber shop, Grocery etc. more so than a nightlife district

There is a lot but I think for the most part the top tier can be agreed as Buffalo, Richmond, New Orleans, Providence and Milwaukee

Salt Lake City is likely up there as well.

Tough to check all those boxes in this country, but Portland, Maine has a nice urban core for its quite small population.

My last visit to Providence was 20 years ago, so I don't know it well enough to include it although I feel it probably should be in the discussion. Also assuming that Nashville is over 2 Million now? If not maybe it should be in the discussion as well.

New Orleans and Milwaukee are my top two. Hard for me to distinguish the winner. I haven't been to Milwaukee since the Hop opened so maybe that would help tip the scales.

Also worth mentioning Honolulu and Salt Lake City. Both places that I don't really know either, but I feel could be up there. Honolulu punches way above its weight and serves as the de facto "city" for the entire main island (or even the entire state). Salt Lake is supposed to be pretty urban with good transit, and its CSA is almost 2.5 Million.

I agree Richmond, New Orleans, Buffalo are the places I’m most familiar with. And Newark if you count it.

For its size, Providence is one of my favorites.
