I think what the OP meant was that L.A.'s run down areas are hidden far off in the distance from the glamorous and glitzy parts. The run down parts are more hidden on the Coasts than a lot of Midwestern cities. Plus, in some peoples' minds, run down parts only exist in the Midwest and not in places like L.A.
Cincinnati is one of the most underrated cities in the country. Ive had so much fun there and I love any excuse to go back.
But its really hard to compete with LA. The size difference is just too great and the natural scenery is tough to get past.
This all said, Id rather spend a weekend in Cincy. I grew up in the LA area and I live in a very large metro area. Cincy is more different to where I am now than LA is (even though I know Houston and LA are very different places). Plus, after 24 years in the LA area Ive done all Id ever want to there. I still miss a lot of nostalgic places like the Apple Pan, skateboarding in Venice Beach, and Jerrys Deli (RIP), but since all my friends also left and I was living in Downtown LA during the week every other week between 2016-2019, I dont really have much desire to go back even for a visit.
This is a few blocks east of downtown. It's everywhere.
