For many on this site, urbanity trumps all. Not only that, but you also have this factor:

Yeah, people just prefer what they prefer I guess, but there is no reason Pittsburgh should be competing here. IRL, ppl would jump at a chance to visit Miami over Pitt... and we know this.

Yes, but the poll doesn't say which do you prefer to visit.

Someone on the very first page picked Pitt for nightlife and things to do/events. Charlotte would give Pittsburgh issues on the things listed, no way Pitt should top Miami in those things lol.

Maybe QOL. That’s about it.

Miami by far.

The other place doesn't do anything for me. So I will have to pass.

Just comes down to personal preferences. Not everyone likes high heat and humidity, flat land, and a Miami's version of urban form. I don't know why people assume everybody likes the same things.

Just because a city’s population is dropping doesn’t mean it’s “on the decline”.

Pittsburgh certainly is not on the decline. I moved here last year and have found it to be as vibrant or more than I expected. There are great opportunities in varied fields forveducated and talented people. True that many of the outlying areas are in fact stable or declining. It is not uncommon in rural areas of the northeast and midwest. The city proper is something like 56 sq mi, and the population seems to be well distributed in mainly single family housing, which is very different from other metros, but lends itself to solid, tight knit neighborhoods. The low density (relative to comparable cities in the northeast) has surprised and delighted me. The rolling topography and terrain sometimes make it feel like a city in a forest. It seems to be the right size now, and, frankly, would be hard to imagine with the population numbers of the past (600,000+). I love to visit Miami but have no preference to live there ever.

In what ways do you consider Miami a "world-class" city? Curious because in all honesty if I had to pick "world-class cities" in the US (let alone on the continent) Miami definitely would not make the top 5. Not even close. And besides potentially population, in what ways do you consider Pittsburgh to be "on the decline."
