In fact, Minneapolis sits exactly on latitude 45ºN — exactly halfway between the Equator and North Pole. Minneapolis is actually farther south than both Milan and Venice in Italy.

That's very true, but the temps in Milan and Venice are MUCH more mild. More comes into play, than just latitude.

True, Italy is influenced by the Gulf Stream and a position by the Mediterranean Sea. However, most of the US is at a southern latitude. Not everyone enjoys the brutal sun angle found at lower latitudes.

The winter in Minneapolis is colder than the winter in Moscow, regardless of latitude.

The only downside to Minneapolis winter weather is wind. I’m quite familiar with the Northwoods, and that area has less wind. I prefer it compared to the more open prairie regions.

The only downside to Kansas City weather is the occasional ice storm

The major downside to Kansas City weather is heat, humidity, and intense sun. Twin Cities has less of all three attributes overall which is a big positive.

Minneapolis is super freaking cold in the winter...for the US. It is. It's kind of ridiculous to deny that. Just embrace it. It is what it is.

I've gone in the middle of winter and found it to be a frozen hellhole, and I'd still pick it. Not that KC is bad, it's a nice place, but Minneapolis is better overall. And I can suck it up with the cold. My kids would love the cold, to be able to build an ice rink in the backyard and use it all winter That's my teenagers dream. I can see him moving north as an adult.

The heat and humidity in MO in the summer is 10x worse than winter to me. It's like living on the sun some days. (and I live in StL, and I suck it up...I like it here, but I'm not the type that would move south and ask for MORE of it ).
