Say Richmond VA and Portland ME are two Cities that come to mind.
Even Chicago works. Major lakefront trails and parks for biking and jogging. Swimming in Lake Michigan with beaches to concrete frontage. A major Triathlon, kayaking on the Chicago river downtown and of course .... in Lake Michigan.
But no our not gong to go white-water rafting and hiking is not up any mountains. Chicago has 26 miles of frontage on Lake Michigan. That vast majority is public lands of Parks, harbors and 15-miles of beaches.

How come only one mention of SF? Seems like people there, and in the wider metro San Francisco would rather go hiking, mountain biking, do yoga, ski in Tahoe, or run a 10k than almost anything. When I’m out there this city boy finds it invigorating.
Nashville!! We have lakes, hiking trails, marathons, and one of the best teaching hospitals in the country - Vanderbilt!
