This list doesn't tell the entire story because of largere cities. It has PA at 78% white, when the 3 counties I spend most of my time in are over 97% white. Growing up in an area like this makes me appreciate places that actually are diverse. I love places like California and Arizona because of the huge diversity that I didn't grow up with.
None. And I need to see the metro areas...It's hard for me to pick states since they're mostly huge and I like living in cities / metro areas, not rural.
What is it with the obsession with race on these forums? Why does it matter which states are "non-Hispanic white" and what the percentages are? Clearly the OP is trying to start a racially-driven debate..
Ah, I went with Hawaii. But its at the bottom. I guess we should approach the list by going from the top down, and see the first state we can see that we think we could tolerate.
It took awhile, but I think I could handle WASHINGTON which is #26. I'd prefer somewhere much further down the list, but Washington is the first remotely appealing place I could see as I read it top-down.
#12 Minnesota, #13 Wisconsin (if I had to, grr Packers!)
Some of these places are really changing demographically (like MN), and cities are much more diverse than rural areas in much of the country, so it comes down to multiple factors.
I love some of the attitudes expressed so far -- very open-minded!
The states only start to feel truly "white" (whatever that means) in the top 20...excluding PA because Philly is soooo influential and including Kansas. They become "white states" in the top 15. Some with significant but singular AA or Mexican minorities
