I’m thinking about a summer vacation to one of these cities with my 13 year old. They seem extremely similar. I’ve never been to Nashville or any attractions appropriate for a young person in NOLA.
They both have zoos. I think only NO has the aquarium. Nashville has Nashville Shores and Top Tree Adventues. I would love to know who has the best food in your opinion. The live music is exciting. Maybe there will be a big name concert happening. From the stats I’ve seen it seems like Nashville is safer.
Can you think of anything I may have missed? Things to see / do / think about before making a choice?

Nashville is safer, no doubt, but New Orleans is more fun.

New Orleans has the best food BY FAR. I love New Orleans and when my kids were growing up, we used to go on vacation there pretty regularly. Never had a problem with crime by the way.

New Orleans is one of the few cities that my kids seemed to love just wandering around in - there's just so much to see and do. Lots of museums, tons - TONS - of the best food evah - spontaneous second lines (look it up if you don't know what one is - big fun), cool walking tours, artists everywhere, great live music on just about every street corner and in many restaurants and clubs, and don't forget to take the kids to Metairie's City Park and art museums as well!

Oh, and take them on a streetcar ride through the Garden District.

There are so many cool shops too - even kids enjoy them. You also have the river area. Oh, and the WW2 museum on Magazine Street is great. Several Mardi Gras museums. I haven't been to the one in Algiers (free ferry ride across the river) but I've heard it's good too.

Watch "Love Song for Bobby Long" before you go - it's appropriate for a teenager to watch. To me, out of all the movies about New Orleans, this one captures the feel of that city best.

NOLA it is! Thank y’all! KarenArgon I think gave a laundry list of stuff to fill a week haha. Best restaurants and bars (live music) where a 13 year old can get in?

They couldn't be any more different. I would choose New Orleans because its attractions are more unique. The food is much better, and more affordable than Nashville. Nashville can be snooty at times. New Orleans is a place everyone must visit at least once.
