I keep checking the local news sites to see if they are listing a total, recently there was a murder/suicide earlier this month but did not say how many that made for the year. There have not been many homicides in Dayton this year which is a good thing.

Normally the split goes blacks being around 80% of victims, hispanics around 16% and whites/asians around 4%.

Population/rate per 100,000:

White/Asian: 1,000,000 (2)
Hispanic: 800,000 (11)
Black: 750,000 (59)

Each city on my list has a link to my source, as you know (I hope). I think are four cities are from crime mapping websites. These cities use them to store their data. For example, here's from Fort Worth:

Disclaimer
Every city has a link to the source being used for the statistics presented - click on the name of the city in the list to see the data source. When possible, official government sources for that city are used instead of news articles. There are a handful of cities though where the statistics do come from recent news articles which specifically state the number of homicide in the year it is. A handful of cities' data comes from newspapers who keep tally of homicides, and these are used when an official up to date or semi up to date government source cannot be found. The date after each city represents when the data is current through in 2019.

Homicide rates are calculated using the US Census's latest population estimates, which is for year 2018.

Updates
- Numerous cities use crime mapping websites such as communitycrimemap.com to hold their data. I have changed the links from many of these sources to link to the city or police department website which links to the crime mapping website that they use. A few police departments such as Anchorage and Toledo link on their home pages, but the link is buried in things such as interactive menus, so I haven't changed those links.

- I updated Houston to not use their crime mapping anymore, which means the data is only through 5/31 now.
- I updated the source for Cincinnati as I have found their official statistics from their police department.

- I am using the newspaper source for Baton Rouge now. The source says 41, but my number says 40 because one of the crimes on the webpage listed took place in Zachary, LA. After investigating the other source which is from the government of Baton Rouge, it seems as if they are erroneously listing attempted homicides as committed homicides. We saw this in Boston's source too which is why I no longer use that one.

- I added a few new cities such as Dayton and Durham (North Carolina).
- I removed Lubbock for now as I found out their crime statistics page only filters through the last month, and not the dates you selected. Still looking for a reliable Cleveland source..

Well, it's a hell of a lot less safe if you are black in Chicago - that's very true. Statistically at least. If you are Asian or White especially, it is statistically very safe. However, your safety will go up quite a bit outside of the handful of areas where the majority of homicides occur but you are probably less safe there than other races, but still pretty safe. There is a reason why the black middle (and upper) classes have left some of the high crime areas since 2010 (and really before that) and why the black population in the suburbs actually increased between 2010 and 2017

Fairly unsafe for Hispanics too. 11 per 100k isn't super safe.
