Tragic. Pittsburgh is still only at 35 I believe (possibly 36---I will check with my colleague, who is a homicide analyst, later). If this isn't a "fluke" year and is the "new normal" for Pittsburgh then I really hope Cincinnati can turn things around since our cities are roughly the same size. I'm really rooting for Cincinnati!

I mean, if you take away what happened the synagogue, Pittsburgh would have only had 44 murders last year, so this really is the second year in a row of your typical gun violence in the city going down it seems like. From seeing what other cities have and their comparison to last year though, it does feel like the drop in Pittsburgh is an anomaly.

Arlington and Alexandria, VA - almost 500k, 4. And far more racially diverse and densely populated than London, Ont or Windsor. What's your point?

Pittsburgh is now up to 37. We're having an unusually active December. We should (hopefully) still end up below 40, though. My prediction is 39.

With 37 homicides and a 2018 population estimate of 301,048, our per capita rate is now 12.29/100,000. Not great by any means, but that's much lower than our typical 15-20 per 100,000.

When you consider their median household income is something like $120-130k... that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for crime lol

I hope so too. If you look at the crime maps, it is mostly happening in the gentrifying areas otr etc. Cincinnati is bad, but still nowhere near out of control like some cities.

I don't understand what triggered you in that post about London and Windsor. It wasn't made in comparison to any other city!

People post stats from all sorts of cities on here: big and small, low and high.

As I said before, my city has 285,000 people, and we're at 1 for 2019.
