Correction: Harvey's 23rd homicide victim was actually a 22 year old man, not 56 like sun-times said. There were 4 homicides in December, all of whom were males in their 20s and 30s.

From 2018 estimates giving the city a population of 24,641, the homicide rate is 93.3 per 100k for the year. I think that is only behind East St. Louis at 117.7 per 100k in the country.

Happy 2020 Everyone! Stay Safe

Baltimore is a more important and prominent city so we hear about it more...
Do you mean St Louis was worse in the 2010's ?

Because New Orleans was the top dog in the 2000's

Hurricane Katrina was one of the biggest disaster's in world history. I remember N.O cats going to different cities in the South putting it down hard ~

But if we talking now, you could argue both St Louis and Baltimore as being the worse.

Lynchburg, VA finished the year with 2 for an effective rate of 2.43 per 100,000. I thought we were going to finish the year with just 1, but sadly there was a second homicide two nights before New Years eve. Both murders of the year were committed by juveniles under 18.

Using our city's 2018 population estimate of 301,048 we now have a rate of 12.29/100,000.

This might be the lowest we've had in recent history. I truly hope Pittsburgh can even get below 10/100,000 in the coming years. Our city is gentrifying very rapidly.
Looks like the total of 37 will stand for 2019. It's our lowest number since 1998.

Allegheny County (with a population of 1.23 million) finished at 95. I believe that's down from last year too.

they started making the texas cities worse too, especially Houston and maybe Dallas, even though it was always like that

Boston's Numbers are out per the Globe and the BPD:

2019: 38 murders (~700k people) 5.4 murders per 100,000 people
2018: 56 murders (694k people) 8.06 murders per 100,000 people

Nice decrease in YOY. If we can only get it under 25 that would be phenomenal!
