Chicago in my list above should read 51, not 47. The rate is correct at 1.88 though. Dallas is up to 30 homicides now - doesn't appear to be the best of years there as that rate is almost the same as Cincinnati's now.

#28 in Charlotte, rate of 3.26. This was really odd, the way they reported it on the news, a guy carjacked someone, then after he couldn't start the car, got out the car and was leaving the scene. The carjacking victim was on the phone with 911 when a stranger walked up and shot the carjacker, then fled the scene...

Would this have been considered self-defense(non-homicide) if the victim had shot and killed the carjacker?

Where do you get your numbers for LA? LA Times Homocide report has LA city at 30, 29 if you exclude an officer that killed a suspect.
