Seems like the major metropolitans are getting safer but the south is getting more violent, like the thugs are getting priced out and moving to the cheap south

That's the problem. People are so worried about building a wall along the Mexican border but people can move freely about within the country. Maybe we should regard other states the same way as we do other countries.

Maybe in a dystopian future but I think we're good

So what's going on in Baton Rouge? Is it gang or drugs related or did somebody go on a killing spree? I couldn't find any obvious reasons in the media.

I’m also starting to wonder if the police is “laying off†and letting things go. It is interesting that Baltimore and Baton Rouge are seeing higher numbers compared to most and both have had high profile police involved deaths of unarmed black men in recent years.

I’ve googled street viewed pretty much every cities ghetto and hood in America and have studied homicide maps looking for the worst areas and find it surprising that a ton of these homicides happen in areas that do not look bad at all. I’m from the northeast and actually been to the major cities from DC to Boston and you can actually tell when your in the hood.

Cities like:
Indianapolis
Atlanta
Tulsa
Denver
Columbus
Milwaukee
Houston
Dallas
Charlotte

...and others all have high homicide counts and the areas that they happen in look like suburbs with no poverty or urban decay at all. Some serious morons killing each other when their living situation could look much worse.

That's because the number of murders Baton Rouge has seen so far this year is around 23 not 53.

So why does their website from brla.gov say differently?
https://data.brla.gov/Public-Safety/...fabb-cnnu/data

There is something weird with the filtering, but when I did a map for this, it shows as 51 homicides and they're all in the city limits.

For Baton Rouge, 23 of the homicides are 1st degree murder while another and all the others, except 2, are 2nd degree murder. The FBI counts all homicides except for suicides, accidents, negligent homicides (like a drunk driver killing someone by accident), and self defense. Whether someone pre-meditated a murder (1st degree) or did not (2nd degree) it's still a murder if the intent was to murder and not something like an accident or self defense. Baton Rouge this year if this data is correct is off the charts.

Nice to see Lincoln still at zero. Though its a relatively safe city, it can hit double digits in a year sometimes.
