yeah thanks for the clarification but even 64 homicide not even half way through the year for a city of 702k is way too much especially when this city is the nation capital where the FBI (actually Arlington), the CIA (I know is intelligence and espionage), and the metro police are located in, 64 is just too much and inexcusable
O, it will be excused by someone on here trust me...
But Chicago and Philadelphia, with lower murder rates don't stand a chance...

Yea, well try 492 in a year for starters. DC is light years better than it was 25 years ago. A bad year now is 150-160 for the year, and currently it's below that pace. Overall violent crime is down not up in Washington.
The overwhelming majority of those murders are East of the Anacostia River (about 18-20 sq mi) so the Washington people know and love or hate on TV is no where close to that rate of murders.

Even though it is better, it is still way too much for a city this size.
NYC got its act together, L.A is following its step, Miami is getting up there, Boston too... DC the nation capital is still way too high, and now hot days are coming so homicide will spike
And besides, I know DC, been there many times, I know that the NW and SW are pretty much murder free but still the NE and SE is still DC.
I remember one particular sad story, a young couple wanted to get a hotel room to have sex but neither of them had any money so what they did was enraging... They called a taxi, murdered the driver just to get the money for the hotel room....

Same with Chicago and Philadelphia. The difference is that DC can and does brush it under the rug, whereas Philadelphia and especially Chicago have these exaggerated reputations about crime and murder.
Shooting in Lynnhaven was Virginia Beach's 9th homicide of the year, rate at exactly 2 per 100k right now...
Virginia Beach is currently on pace for ~22-23, which significantly outpaces its average of around 17 annually. Also, Virginia Beach has only had 22 murders twice in the last 30 years, so that figure would be considered high for the city...
The other interesting part of this is that we're nearly in June and The Beach has more murders than Norfolk. I don't know when, if ever, that has been the case in late May of any year. Norfolk still has the slightly higher rate (2.45), but has recorded just 6 homicides this year. That puts Norfolk on pace to finish with about 15 murders this year. That would be an unprecedented low mark in Norfolk, which typically averages ~33/year and hasnt had fewer than 27 murders in year in at least 30 years (as far back as I could research). The track this year is well below that 27 homicide mark; murders would have to increase pretty significantly in the final 7 months of this year just to reach 27...
Given Norfolk's history, even 5 months into the year, it still seems kinda unbelievable for Norfolk to finish with fewer murders than 27 and/or fewer than VB, but we'll see...
Virginia Beach just had a mass shooting which adds 12 to the count (or maybe 11 plus the shooter who killed himself).

Yeah so far there has been 12 confirmed killed, the shooter makes 13 total dead...
So as it stands Virginia Beach just shot up to 21 murders for the year, rate of 4.67. Obviously the mass shooting is an anomaly but as previously mentioned, the city has already been on a pace to get to the low 20s this year. The mass shooting combined with the fact shootings and killings have been up in general this year, make Virginia Beach a real threat to break 1991's record 29 homicides. At this point I would say that almost assured of being matched or broken, given there are 7 months left in the year, and even prior to the mass shootings, there were already 9 in the first five months of 2019...
