Ok, so I've never been to about five states in this country. For some reason, despite it's perception through the media, I've always had a soft spot for West Virginia. Oddly enough, I used to live in Pittsburgh, and I still never went to W. Virginia. Although, to be honest, I did not have the same fondness at that time. I think it's because the people from that state remind me of the people from Tennessee. I've heard that people from Tennessee are really down to earth. My best friend lived in Tennessee for a bit and raved about the people. Of course he lived in Cookville, which is a small town. People (and maybe I'm wrong) from West Virginia seem about the most honest and least pretentious people in our country. That's my perception of West Virginia. They seem so wholesome in a country losing its wholesomeness.
Ok, to make it city vs city, what city or state doesn't intrigue you at all?
I think I have no feeling whatsoever for South Dakota. There's no real reason, I just don't know that much about South Dakota. There are hardly any cities in that state.
I don't know how to edit the title, so I guess I am stuck with the one way version.

Well, I think the more people you know and are close with in a certain state, will allow you to have more of an affection and favorable vibe towards that state.
But if you don't know anyone, ever from a state, or know someone you kind of dislike from a state, you'll have negative feelings or "meh" feelings about it.
For me, I grew up disliking Kentucky, because my mom is from there originally and always talked about how she disliked it so much. Also, I had a few cousins who lived there and would always talk about "how great Kentucky was." But now, I don't necessarily dislike the state, I just would probably never live there unless an incredibly lucrative job opportunity popped up.
But for a state I like that intrigues me for some reason? That would be New Mexico. I love the desert, and the Santa Fe area, as well as the desert geography there draws me to it. I've only ever driven through several times. Never spent time in the state beyond the drive-throughs.

Yes, something about New Mexico I like too. That's one of the few western states I haven't been too, but for some reason the people from there seem really awesome.
New Mexico because I want to see why a bunch of great artists live or have lived there. Utah because I drove through Southern Utah once and was really in awe of some of the dramatic nature/landscapes going on and would like to explore it further.

Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, the landscape is awesome, I love the Rocky Mountains. I was in awe the first time that I ever drove through those states. Simply stunning mountains. I love the mountains in the east too, but they didn't have the fear factor that the west had. Exceptions, the Smokey mountains and the Adirondacks are so damn beautiful, they didn't need it.
I too have always been fascinated with West Virginia. Never been there but have seen pictures of the landscape and was awestruck by the beauty. Off topic but I absolutely loved the scenic backgrounds Disney presented in their animated version of Pocahontas. I foolishly thought Virginia was gorgeous and lush like that in real life. It's not. West Virginia is much closer to what was depicted.
Pittsburgh and Cleveland have always intrigued me in a way I've never been able to put my finger on (which is a rarity for me, lol). I really have a soft spot for those cities. Have always liked them and enjoyed the many times I've visited them.
New York State (particularly outside of NYC) has always intrigued me for no good reason. I always felt like I could end up in Upstate NY at some point in life.
