Two sluts. One lives in the desert, the other on the sea.

Las Vegas is just gross. Aside from poverty-stricken hellholes, the most depressing place I've ever seen.

I enjoy Las Vegas and am a native. Never been to South Florida but would love to visit FtL or Miami, what a dream.

Ft. Lauderdale has a more urban footprint and real beaches. I really don't see how someone could like living in a suburban desert surrounding one big street of hotels and casinos. I mean, I guess you can like it, but at least how could anyone actually say it's better than Ft. Lauderdale?

Proximity to LA... Maybe...?

Without conscience thought or attention, a vast majority of American Westerners, especially those in Arizona and California, would automatically assume that Las Vegas is superior to Ft. Lauderdale -- or any other city in Florida, for that matter -- because the Las Vegas Valley is surrounded by mountains and features a very arid climate. Most people in the American Southwest, whether they are native to the region or not, cite "high" humidity levels and "flat" terrain as their biggest objections to relocating to anyplace outside of the Western United States.

Yep - I was born in NYC, grew up in Louisville, went to college in NYC and spent a working life in upstate NY and LA. Retired 25 years ago to Las Vegas.

Would not consider anywhere with a real winter or high humidity. As soon as you see a bug tent on the swimming pools count me out. I have no problem with winter Florida but come summer...no thanks.

And Las Vegas is a quite enjoyable city for the residents. Very different for the Strip life of the tourist. And the Strip provides the opportunity to enjoy it to the locals.

Las Vegas is not for all. Weak Tech employment for instance. And it is not cheap. Just about on the US average for virtually all costs.

But it is a lovely place set in its mountain valley. And the weather is quite comparable to many of the nicer places. In terms of comfort for instance the weather is pretty much the same as Dallas in the summer and much better than Dallas in the winter.

For me, Ft. Lauderdale by a landslide. I love the ocean in Ft.L and see Las Vegas as enormously tacky (sorry). I really wouldn't want to live in either, but between the 2, Ft. Lauderdale for sure.

That merely says you do not know anything about Las Vegas. Las Vegans do not live on or near the strip. The strip is simply our steel mill. And the plant is sufficiently good at what it provides to maintain a core of employment for the locals. I would suspect that even in a hundred years Las Vegas will be in there providing entertainment and joy to the world.

It maintain a mildly off presence to appeal to the clientele. In fact it is virtually the same as say LA or NYC. Simply features the risque a little more.

I am a sailor of pretty high skill level able to take a small to medium sized boat anywhere in the world. I am now somewhat physically handicapped so long haul is not likely anymore though I still know how even if I cannot stand up anymore. But living next to the ocean is not required. In some ways the best five years were after we moved to Las Vegas but kept the boat in Long Beach for week long trips to Catalina.

FL is a fine place in the winter. Nicer than LV. But after spring it goods hard the other way. And the sweat and the bugs are a thing I know well from my youth. Never again.
