Not sure how/why this old post got bumped, but these cities are so different that it's hard to understand if this is a serious question from the OP. Chicago is a major city, so if you desire traditional "big city life," that would make the decision for Chicago easy. If yes, it would be the choice, if not, it would eliminate it and it would be between Denver and Charlotte. The OP would have already known the answer to this before asking the question.
Now Charlotte vs Denver is more compelling and I can see posting on advise to compare these. It would likely come down to weather, region of the country, COL, culture. There's not any magical information anyone can give. If the OP and his wife really can move anywhere and get a job, they would want to visit each and experience the culture and see which place has more amenities they like and which is a better "fit." If I liked the outdoors and skiing, for example, I'd definitely choose Denver. It's not that hard....I'm a little suspicious about some of these posts.....
It would be pretty tough between Denver and Charlotte for me. I personally love mountain views so I will probably lean toward Denver.
