Hot weather, fit people, cheaper than Chicago and possibly cheaper than Miami (don't know for sure), breathtaking beaches, and of course if your job pays more there, I'd say follow the money too lol.

Chicago and Miami both have great nightlife, even in some of the suburbs. San Diego's isn't bad but it's also not on the same level as the other two cities.
On what planet is Chicago and Miami cheaper than SD?!

San Diego is actually not cheap and Chicago is cheaper than San Diego on average, believe it or not.

Median rent, 2017 from the Census ACS:
San Diego: $1503
Miami: $1056
Chicago: $1029

Miami Beach at $1261 in case you are interested. Then you can look on other sites which might not be as comprehensive because they're usually in the more affluent and sought after neighborhoods, but for example rentcafe.com has the average rent in San Diego at $2168 with Chicago at $1893 and Miami at $1724. Zumper has the average 1 bedroom in Chicago at $1550, Miami at $1799, and San Diego at $1745.

The Census figures are more comprehensive for entire cities while the others are for more affluent/popular neighborhoods. Regardless, even in the more affluent areas, San Diego might surprise you in that it is just as expensive if not moreso than Chicago. A luxury apartment in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego would be similar in price of a luxury apartment in downtown Chicago (River North, Gold Coast, etc)

It really depends on how much the cold bothers you. From Dec- March Chi will be cold and some weeks really cold!

That said, if you can get past it, I have never met a 20-35 year old who didnt fall in love with what Chicago has to offer. In my opinion it is the best city for those who want an urban experience at a practical price.

San Diego is beautiful, can do no wrong.

Miami, u kinda set it right. While it has a few glitzy areas, it fades fast and quality of life(outside of weather) not as good.

OMG I am so dumb. I meant "On what planet is SD cheaper than Chicago and Miami". It was a total typo. I was shocked when the poster said Chicago and Miami are more expensive. I meant the total opposite of what I wrote.
