If you love the beach, don't write it off just yet! I grew up on the coast and now live inland Gvl/Sprtnbrg region (just over 3hrs from the SC beaches). Understanding hurricanes and how your potential community and residence have been built to withstand them or not & history can help determine what may or may not work for you. Not to mention that effects from hurricanes can travel hundreds of miles inland. FL has the toughest building codes due to past hurricanes (newer the better, after Cat5 Andrew in 1992 building codes changed a lot), GA rarely gets a direct hit (shape of the coast line prevents that often as storms typically curve up past them into the Carolina's or out to sea, and the Carolina's can get hit when a storm is trying to turn out to sea and hits land before it can finish generally. Thank you so much, such great info!!! Do you know of any area in North Carolina, South Caroline, or Georgia that is maybe 1 to 2 hours from the beach but rarely gets hit with hurricanes? Also, are there any mountains that have snowmobiling anywhere in these areas? It's so hard to narrow into one area, I just don'e know where to begin! Anywhere you have heard is great that is near a lake or big river, cost of living isn't too high, has manufacturing jobs, is about 2 hours or so (this doesn't have to be exact) from the beach, hurricanes aren't too much of a worry, good for kids, good hospitals, good schools, somewhere someone would like to live for years and years? Lol. I know that's a lot! Just looking for any ideas!! Do you know any subarb areas that have a lot to offer? Thanks you SOOOO MUCH!!!!!
