It sounds like Olympia would be the best bet economically.

Eugene isn’t in Eastern Oregon, but otherwise I generally agree with you. Eugene is really not that special of a city and Salem is pretty run-down and doesn’t have much to offer (as far as I’ve seen).

If I were the OP I’d look into Astoria or Bellingham or even somewhere in Skagit County.

Whoops! Western Oregon. Even when I lived there, for some reason I made that slip up over and over again and would refer to the coastal side as "eastern Oregon". Some kind of mental block. Odd because I hated the PacNW and couldn't wait to graduate and GTFO, but I really like eastern Oregon, and always thought it was the prettier, more interesting part of the state.
