Never been to Shreveport so I won't fill out the questionnaire, but I'd pick Baton Rouge alone on its proximity to New Orleans and it being what I consider the Bayou Madison (or is Madison the Prairie Baton Rouge...i.e. state capitol and home to the flagship research university for the state)
^This. I would have to give it to Baton Rouge. I live in Bossier City and I have been to BR many times. It's cleaner, more vibrant, and has more economic growth. Shreveport is the definition of lackluster.
Baton Rouge has a better economy because of the oil industry and the plants which are continuing to expand. Also, the LSU campus and associated businesses makes this area PARTIALLY recession-proof since LSU will always be here and will always be a major campus. There are also more tourist attractions here if you look at the entire BR Metro area which includes St. Francisville with its beautiful historic plantations which are visited by people across the country and we have other plantations along the River Road, and we are not too far from New Orleans.
BR truly is where all the various Louisiana cultures come together.

My biggest turnoff to Baton Rouge is the giant refinery right inside the city and all the chemical processing in that area. Being in Cancer Alley, despite the amenities, just does not appeal to me. I liked BR when I visited a while ago, but the economic advantage comes with a clear cost here.
I don't know anything about Shreveport, but it seems like all the cities and towns in the whole Piney Woods region (except maybe Tyler TX) get trashed on here. It's a shame, because it looks like such a pretty area.
Been to both, I would pick Baton Rouge in a heartbeat. Shreveport in economic decline and the crime rate continues to skyrocket. A positive for Shreveport is that Bossier City is next door which is safer alternative.

Baton Rouge utterly crushes Shreveport. Although, I will admit Shreveport's skyline is a bit more interesting. Heck, I'd argue BR is going to out-pace New Orleans steadily in the decades to come. New Orleans is pretty well doomed by its location right now, unless drastic sea wall ideas come to fruition.
