Baltimore isn't part of the 'DMV.' But if you want "city" to mean "CSA" (as opposed to MSA, which is what it typically means) then sure.

Even then, not sure how you can say it's not close. The co-founder of Johnson Products Company recently passed away and that's a strong piece of evidence in Chicago's favor. As a matter of fact, when it comes to historic Black entrepreneurship, Chicago is undoubtedly at the top of the heap there.

I know but for the purposes of this poll I'm considering it all one region. Chicago didn't even have a significant black population before the Great Migration... DC and Baltimore did, not sure how you can consider Chicago and old money city.

DC and Baltimore were even more separate back then than today; we're talking about an era before interstates, HRT/LRT, and widespread automobile usage. They are two separate cities that really only started growing towards each other in the mid-20th century and afterwards.

True but Black folks, collectively, didn't have a whole lot of money before the Great Migration got underway although cities in the Chesapeake region in particular did a little better than others. Even so, Chicago caught up pretty quickly and spawned household names and brands in Black America and that can't be easily dismissed. And for what it's worth, it's the only city in this conversation that was actually founded by a Black man.

The Great Migration started in 1916. There was almost no black wealth anywhere, before the Great Migration. Old Money, in Black America is basically any wealth that goes back three or more generations.

In my experience I'd agree with that. Some New York. But just google where Jack and Jill are popular and where people in Oak Bluffs live in the winter and you'll get your answer.

If you want to ask where you will find them in the summer, that's easy. Oak Bluffs and Sag Harbor

There's no official date per say and it may be earlier. Also, Black wealth could be found prior to the migration as another poster stated about the Chesapeake Bay area.

@Mutiny77

Haitian man settled Chicago.
