I know nothing about either city, and, as such, shall refrain from voting.

Would someone familiar with both cities care to enlighten us a bit about what each city is like?

Hattiesburg greatly surprised me when I visited. Southern Miss has a really nice campus, and many of the city neighborhoods south of the campus seemed quiet, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. It's not that far from New Orleans either... People love to hate on Mississippi but it's really not all that different from the rest of the southeast.

It's not necessarily hate because Mississippi is much different from the Carolina's, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. Sure, those states have southern roots as well but they are also considered "New South" states, which is the major difference.

"New South" sounds like semantics to me.

Hattiesburg is considered one of the better places in MS. Albany is always on the "bad" list in Georgia. When you look up stats on the two they are fairly similar but most of Hattiesburg,'s suburban type wealth is located outside of town to the west in an area called Oak Grove. It is a very nice area and has basically was the center of any residential and commercial growth in the area for many years. Over the last decade or two downtown Hattiesburg is making a comeback.

I can't really speak to Albany as I haven't been there in 30 years but Hattiesburg holds it's own as a college town.

There's definitely nothing "New South" about Albany. Quite probably the worst mid-sized city in Georgia.

I've been to both. I would live in Hattiesburg, no way would I even consider Albany.

People don't even know what they're voting for here, except to blindly vote against Mississippi.

I don’t even know Hattiesburg but I certainly know that Albany is possibly the most depressing metro in the state of Georgia. I can help but to feel sad every time I’m there.
