Major MSAs (with populations 700k +) ranked by murder rate for 2018.

The United States in general saw a decrease from 5.3 murders per 100k people in 2017 to 5.0 in 2018. The U.S. murder rate in 2016 was 5.4 and in 2015, it was 4.9. Lowest of this decade so far was 4.4 in 2013.

A few major MSAs such as New York City, Denver, Kansas City, Louisville and maybe some others were missing data for 2018.

Nah if anything it enforces the notion that the vast majority of crimes a relegated to poor areas of inner cities rather than their surrounding suburbs where the population usually significantly more affluent.
