Maybe I should have made it more clear in my thread. There is one muder capital per year, I am looking for the one city that was the murder capital by year. 1990, 1991, 1992, etc..

Here's a list of cities that I know have received the name of murder capital in the past.

New Orleans
Atlanta
Washington, D.C.
St. Louis
Los Angeles
Chicago
Detroit
Philadelphia
New York City

That's all I can think of.

Major cities.. or just any towns or cities in general?

I know New Orleans, Detroit, and Camden are in the top running.

Note that it always depends how you format the measurements of the "capitals". Are you including just the city limits, or the whole metro area? What is the minimum size of the city or metro area that you can include? Etc...
Anyway, google is fun.:

I don't know if there is any list like that, I haven't seen one yet.

This is a list of cities that I know or am pretty sure were the US murder capital in the past:

New Orleans
Detroit
Compton
Cleveland
St. Louis
Miami
Los Angeles
NYC
Chicago
Gary
Youngstown
Newark
Baltimore
Philadelphia
Camden
East St. Louis

I've heard people say the murder capital is just the city with the most murders, which doesn't make sense because than the largest cities would be the murder capital every year. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be about per capita murder rate. And then theres the confusion over size, some people only include the larger cities and don't count smaller ones like Camden or East St. Louis. A lot of confusion around this I've noticed.
