Another vote for Atlanta... because of the key wording at the end-metros included. Austin is more immediately pretty than Atlanta to me, and uses it as such to it's advantage (waterfront, topography, etc.). That said, even city limits as a whole are relatively competitive, metro wise, the Appalachian Trail falls within even Atlanta's primary OMB boundaries, and I don't think anything in Austin can match that. That said, I had a good time with the nature and surroundings in Austin, and I could see where someone who is more sold by unique geologic features, springs, and a rugged look over trees and mountains and lushness I prefer of Atlanta, could prefer Austin overall... and again to say that Austin has just been set up in an awesome way within it's core for outdoor recreational activities.
Atlanta has access to real mountains and is more consistently green and hilly. But, IMO Austin has a more scenic setting. The hills are more dramatic and I prefer the water features, the river, tavis lake, barton springs, etc.
