It would be hard to find a citation that says "Champaign, Ill will not celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year". Denver has been doing it ever since we moved here in 1980.

Day of the Dead seems to have picked up steam more recently, but it was always here. Again, I don't think you'll find any citations for "We are not celebrating Day of the Dead in Champaign this year".

What is the basis for the numbers? CSA or MSA? I ask because for NYC, 5.4Million is far more than any other metro area. I would have thought metro L.A. would be higher but if you add Riverside, L.A. would be equivalent. I am sure by 2030, DFW and Houston will be top 5, surpassing D.C. and Chicago. I think Miami will lose some people due to lack of land, possibly flooding to other Florida cities.

Longmont (a town in the Denver area) has been celebrating Day of the Dead for 19 years.

Here's an article from 2008 in Denver:
https://www.denverpost.com/2008/10/2...changes-grows/

The Cinco de Mayo Culture Festival in Denver has been going on for 32 years, and I'm pretty sure there were informal celebrations before then.

Denver has one of the largest celebrations of Cinco de Mayo in the country:

Those numbers are by MSA.

It’s pretty much an excuse for Americans to get wasted and eat Tex Mex. in Mexico, September 16 is the celebrated holiday. Denver’s largest demographic growth comes from whites and its culture caters mainly to whites. Austin is more diverse than Denver and its a white culture magnet too.
Denver has a huge Mexican population, though.

Definitely does, although surprisingly not in the top 10 for metro areas. These are the numbers for 2018 by MSA unless otherwise noted. This is people who noted they're 100% Mexican descent, born anywhere in the world. In any case, Denver has over 500,000 people of Mexican descent (not counting those who are mixed). Looking at those two most recent sets of figures, and I would really need to go back to the figures on total foreign-born population to really draw this conclusion, but just these bring it home to me:

It seems that Pittsburgh is an incredibly white big city.

I suspect that if we separated the city of Pittsburgh - or Allegheny County - from the other counties that make up the Pittsburgh MSA, the whiteness of the surrounding counties would be even greater.

I'm a little loath to call the surrounding counties "suburban," because most of them also had their own industry, usually related in some way to the dominant steelmaking industry. In sharp contrast to Pittsburgh itself, none of these communities have managed to find something to replace the jobs and sense of purpose steel used to provide. That in turn IMO goes a long way to explain why President Trump carried Southwestern Pennsylvania by a large margin in 2016: Pittsburgh itself is very much on the mend, but the rest of its metropolitan region remains part of the Land of the Forgotten. And since very few immigrants are drawn to the Forgotten places, there's very little to leaven that yearning for what was, for what was remains far better than what is now.

I’m always surprised by how few Mexican people live in the Boston area. (compared to the rest of the country)

Could be 2 or 3 time zones and 2500 to 3000 miles is the reason

9 cities above Denver (in bold), including 8 of the top 10, are also larger than Denver in total population. San Antonio, San Diego and Austin are not *that* much smaller than Denver, either.
