264 homicides in a population of 300K works out to a homicide rate of 88/100K

I don't think that would make St Louis THE most dangerous city in the world, as there are Latin American cities with higher homicide rates... But I think it would give it the unenviable title of highest homicide rate of any American major city in history...
Yes, if St. Louis ends the year with 264 murders, that's a higher murder rate than any other major U.S. city has ever experienced .

Just barely surpassing New Orleans‘ 87 per 100k in 1994.

That year New Orleans has a population of 484k and 421 homicides. The true “murder capital”

Chicago PD fired on by fleeing robbery suspect. CPD returned fire, suspect escaped and remains at large. No injuries. COPA (Civilian Office of Police Accountability) is investigating officers’ actions.

3rd incident in a week that involved officers being targets of gunfire.

I don't know how you're defining "major U.S. city" but Gary used to put up rates of 110-130 per 100K in the 90's. 1990's Gary is much more similar to 2020 St. Louis in terms of land area and population than St. Louis is to present day Chicago or other 1st tier U.S. cities.

Denver is at 56 so far this year

Just a decade ago through July '10 they had a total of just 13 homicides.

Here is a report on the quintuple homicide this week in Denver, they had one other homicide and that was a 9 month old baby dropped off at Denver Health Medical Center who passed away and was ruled a homicide.

https://kdvr.com/news/local/deadly-h...d-as-homicide/

The Denver city crime map reports 51 but the homicide on August 5 was Quintuple homicide in Green Valley Ranch and there was a baby who was dropped off at Denver Health Medical Center who has been ruled a homicide.

The map that reports 51 is the number of homicide occurances not the number of victims. Denver crime map only counts each instance as one on it's map.

Milwaukee is up to 101, up from 59 last year

Omaha is up to at least 24 which is more than all of 2019 which had 23 homicides.

Omaha had a total of 6 homicides in just July according to KETV Omaha and the story seems to be before the end of the month

"Just in July we've had five homicide incidents with six victims. And last year at this time (July) we didn’t have any,”

Lincoln, Nebraska had 4 homicides in July alone. They had two seperate homicides in just one day which is the first time since '76.

In the very same area of Lincoln a city that occasionally has zero homicides a year in just one day an elderly woman was caught in the crossfire on a city bus and later in the evening a person murdered in the same area of the city.
