The uptick in shootings and murders is unfortunate (happening in every city), but do some people really think its no longer safe to walk around New York City? By that logic, every city should be avoided.
Most shootings are gang related and happen overnight in and around housing projects.

Total was 361 on Friday, 8/14. Another bad weekend in Philly like lots of U.S cities this summer.

“ She was stabbed. I have no clue – I don’t want to make speculations,” he said. Investigators have not commented on how Morales or Pierre died. [They are]piecing together why anyone would want to hurt her.”

21 year old man from Roxbury man and a 21 year old woman from New Bedford pulled out of submerged car near Boston's Black Falcon Pier onSaturday . Family of the woman says she was stabbed and has stab wounds in her body. Both individuals were reported missing last Tuesday. Investigators have not commented. Assuming that at least the woman’s body is a homicide:

Boston 44

Denver 61 homicides so far compared to just 13 a decade ago at this time after a spate of shootings in West Denver left five injured and three dead Sunday night.

The police department reports 53 incidents of homicide thru August 8th.

https://www.9news.com/article/news/c...a-d17f394f2330

In comparison from January thru August of 2010, there were 13 homicides
January thru August 16th this year, there were 61 homicides

One of those however in July was a quintuple-homicide which counts of 5 which increases the number from 52 homicides to 57 homicides.

There a homicide on August 14th in Park Hill which is 58

Sunday there were multiple shootings on Federal Blvd in West Denver where 3 homicides occured which increases the total to 61

Massive homicide increases also in Omaha with already 24 homicides thru August 15th which surpasses the total for all of the last year which was 23.

The tally of 24 per this article, which is a very high number for Omaha so early in the year.

Lincoln Police Department reports 4 homicides thru July but Lincoln Journal Star article reported that they had their 7th homicide of the year.

Lincoln, Nebraska this time last year had 4 homicides.

I was in NYC this last weekend overall it was VERY lively on the outdoor dining big front until 11PM (curfew). I went to time square to attend a rooftop party on Saturday night around 11 but it was cancelled without telling anyone, people kept coming ik and asking about it-it was disappointing. But Times Square itself was extremely crowded at 12am and did have a very rough feel to it compared to other times I’ve been there. Tons of people all idling with nothing to do. Just eating halal being loud waiting for stuff to pop off mostly people age 16-30 who seemed like locals.

Aside from that the city felt fine.

Looks like 2 more killed early a.m. hours Monday, so total as of this afternoon in Philly is at least 272.

Virtually every major city has had a substantial uptick in violence this year. Sad, but not surprising consider what 2020 has brought

One of many reasons I'm counting the days until the end of the year. It feels like it should be the end of the year already just based on the homicide counts in many cities. Some have already met and exceeded last year's totals, and we're barely halfway through August. I think the pandemic was indirectly related by causing a chain of events that led to the civil unrest. People have been on edge so their emotions and reactions have been out of proportion.
